Environment award to Linde and Sandberg

Yellow SAAB
The long-term and dedicated environment project launched by the Swedish AutoSport Association (Svenska Bilsportförbundet) is now established by a special award, the AutoSport Environment Award. This first year it was awarded to the committed duo from Växjö, Rolf Linde and Malte Sandberg to honour their long-term project to replace petrol with ethanol in motoring.

-Linde and Sandberg has worked together for a long time to eliminate fossil fuels in motoring, to start using renewable fuels, mainly E85, explains Kåge Schildt, president of the Swedish AutoSport Association and also the chairman of the environment award jury.

Rolf Linde is one of the founders of the successful engine optimization company BSR and has a genuine commitment to introducing E85 in motoring. Malte Sandberg is the former director for the Environmental Office for the Municipality of Växjö who pursued these issues towards the public and the media. Together they have created “the Yellow Saab” an E85 vehicle, very famous in the rally circuits.

The success of the Saab paved the way for the E85 wave sweeping Swedish motor sports. A large number of top racing drivers have converted their cars to renewable fuels.

The AutoSport Environment Award consists of 10 000 SEK and is presented during the AutoSport Gala at the Stockholm International Fair on the 24 November. The prize sum can be either donated to an environment organisation or used for a motor sport environment project.

Apart from Kåge Schildt, the environment award jury consists of the members of SBF’s environment committee, Lars Edvall, Inger Olofsson and Micaela Petersson, along with Gert Karlsson from Förlags AB Albinsson & Sjöberg. Kåge Schildt continues: - This is a brilliant example of how the motoring sport can use environment friendly fuels and still be highly competitive.
